CBS’s new military drama series SEAL Team was a success in the ratings during its debut last September. You have been waiting for renewal half a year. Fortunately, on March 27, 2018, CBS opted to renew SEAL Team for Season 2. The decision was due to the robust statistics of the current installment, according to the report by CBS. The network has reported that SEAL Team was among the top five most-watched new shows this season. Kelly Kahl, the network’s president, has stated that SEAL Team ideally fits the CBS lineup because the show has won its timeslot with over 10 million viewers. By the way, SEAL Team is the Network’s #1 new drama in viewers, according to CBS.

Indeed, the figures were beyond praise. The season premiere has garnered almost ten million viewers (9.873) with a 1.52 demo rating among adults 18-49. The total amount of viewers, including DVR, was about 14.25 million. However, also worth noting that the viewing audience dropped almost twice (5.355 million) by the end of the season. Nonetheless, such viewership was more than enough for the decision on renewal.
Meanwhile, the response from critics and viewers was mainly average. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season of SEAL Team holds a score of 5.88/10 and a 68% approval rating from critics, while the viewers have evaluated the military drama at 4.1/5/78%. The results by Metacritic were even worse, 57/100 and 4.9/10, among critics/viewers, respectively. On IMDb, the viewers have rated SEAL Team at 6.8/10 ~ 5,200 votes. Though we don’t regard these statistics impressive enough, CBS most likely paid their attention mostly to television ratings in their decision. Therefore, even despite the decrease in the viewership by the end of the first season, SEAL Team looks like a long-term project on CBS.

The story focuses on the Bravo Team, an elite squad of the NSWDG, which is the most experienced unit of Navy SEALs. These brave guys undertake the most perilous missions across the globe. Because of the detailed elaborated plans of their operations and unrivaled professionalism, the team members don’t hurt the tranquility of their families and don’t cause a public response towards their missions. However, despite their surgical accuracy, the guys could put their relative at risk. Therefore, the guys try to support each other both on and off the job.
Season 2 Release Date
As mentioned above, CBS has picked up SEAL Team for a sophomore season. According to the official announcement, the premiere is slated for the 2018-2019 broadcast season. But the exact release date is yet to be set. However, given the current schedule of the series, we doubt that the show could return to CBS this summer. Most likely, CBS would set the release date for in fall or winter of 2019. It could take about a year to produce one more season of SEAL Team. Nonetheless, this is nothing but our forecast. Of course, we are looking forward to the official news from CBS. Also, we will update this article when the broadcaster announces any specific data on the subject. For now, stay tuned for updates.
