The Alienist Premiered Successfully; Will There Be A Season 2?

The Alienist

This highly anticipated series kicked off on TNT this winter. Predicting success of The Alienist, Netflix has acquired rights for the international broadcast. Most critics have met the show with mixed reviews, while the viewers have apparently remained satisfied with the television adaptation of the eponymous best-selling novel by Caleb Carr. The Alienist comes to an end on TNT on March 26, 2018, or closer to this date.

Meanwhile, the official premiere on Netflix will take place on April 19th. To this time, all the viewers of TNT will finish watching the first season. And most of you would wonder, whether or not The Alienist will return for Season 2? Neither TNT nor Netflix has yet to announce their plans for the future of the series. However, we might predict the possible actions of both networks, using the statistical approach.

The first episode of The Alienist has garnered 2.087 million viewers and a 0.51 key demo (P18-49). This figure looks impressive for a cable network. For example, Animal Kingdom has drawn just 1.3 million viewers during its premiere. Another TNT's hit, Claws, has garnered only 1.18 million viewers. Nonetheless, the network has renewed this show for a second season. Thus, it's clear to us that TNT is about to pick up The Alienist for the next season.

However, let's take a look at another significant factor, such as the reception by critics and viewers. As mentioned above, critics were not impressed with the new period drama on TNT. According to Rotten Tomatoes, this show has a score of 6.57/10 with a 51% approval rating among critics, while on Metacritic, the show's score is 60/100. However, the viewers have appreciated The Alienist, with a score of 4.1/5/80% and 7.0/10 (Rotten Tomatoes/Metacritic, respectively). So, as for the response from the target audience, it was excellent.

As a result, summing up, we evaluate the odds of The Alienist to return for Season 2 as pretty high. This show is based on the best-selling novel; it has been appreciated by the target audience; the first season of The Alienist has showcased the impressive television ratings. Our verdict is that The Alienist Season 2 would happen on TNT and Netflix.

Thus, it's just the matter of time, when TNT announces the renewal. We just need to wait a bit for the official announcement by TNT or Netflix. By the way, the fact that Netflix picked up the show to stream globally illustrate the interest of the global video content provider to The Alienist. This factor also plays in favor of renewal.

What Is The Alienist About?

This gruesome story took place in the 19th century New York City. The Alienist focuses on Laszlo Kreizler, a gifted doctor, known as the "Alienist" due to his obsession with studying mental pathologies and the deviant behaviors. His mission is to track down a never-before-seen serial killer, who is hunting young boys. Together with a newspaper illustrator John Moore, Kreizler conducts the secret investigation to discover the truth about a criminal, who terrorize the city. Sara Howard also joins the team to become the city's first female police detective.

On The Subject Of The Likely Release Date For Season 2

As mentioned above, we don't rule out the decision by TNT to renew The Alienist for a second season. At least, the figures say in favor of renewal. However, it's unknown for sure, has this show been conceived as a mini-series or as a long-running television project. We assume that The Alienist is a long-term show on TNT. Were we right or wrong, we will see.

However, in the case of renewal, we doubt that TNT is about to release The Alienist Season 2 this fall. Most likely, the second season premiere will be shifted for next winter. Therefore, we expect the second season of The Alienist in January 2019. Of course, we are waiting for the official confirmation by TNT. All the information above is just our forecast. But the figures are rarely mistaken. Thus, for us, it's clear that TNT should renew The Alienist for another installment. As of now, we are waiting for the official news. Stay tuned for updates. We will keep you informed on the subject.
