Kanata no Astra (Astra Lost in Space) Season 2: Whether There Will Be Another Season?
Kanata no Astra debuted in June, and those of you who appreciated the sci-fi anime are no doubt looking forward to a Season 2. No official announcement on the subject has been made so far, however, it seems that Astra Lost in Space Season 2 is due to happen.
The project looks promising, and besides, the series has been praised by the viewers. We doubt that the Lerche studio conceived Kanata no Astra as a one-season television project, and below we want to reveal why we think that Kanata no Astra Season 2 is just a matter of time.
First, it's worth mentioning that Kanata no Astra is based on a Japanese award-winning sci-fi manga of the same name written by Kenta Shinohara, which has been ranked # 3 in 2019 and won the twelfth Manga Taishoo Awards. To date, the original manga series consists of only five volumes, the last of which was issued on February 2, 2018.
To be honest, it's a bad signal that no new manga volumes were issued by 2019. It seems that the Kanata no Astra manga series is currently suspended. Kenta Shinohara, the manga author, previously was releasing two volumes a year. It's not clear as of yet how many chapters were used in the current television adaptation since the particular number of episodes in Astra Lost in Space is yet to be announced.
In our opinion, in case of a single-cour season, the guys who stand behind the Lerche studio had to use the two volumes out of five. However, if Kanata no Astra Season 1 consists of 24 episodes, they had to adapt four books. But please bear in mind that this is only our vision. In any case, we will have to wait until the 1st installment of the sci-fi series is ended.
In other words, in the best case scenario, if we have a single-cour season, the odds to see Kanata no Astra Season 2 are high, unless the Lerche studio had included all the five volumes in the current television adaptation. In the worst, only one volume remains, and we thereby will have to wait until Kenta Shinohara publishes at least one more book.
Another factor, which might positively affect the decision on renewal is the response of the target audience. In case with Kanata no Astra, viewers mainly appreciated the 1st installment of the sci-fi anime, given the data presented by MyAnimeList. According to their statistics, Kanata no Astra Season 1 holds a score of 7.64/10 based on approx. 7,000 votes. Even on IMDb, Astra Lost in Space keeps a strong rating of 7.6/10.
Summing up, as we have mentioned above, we regard Kanata no Astra as a promising long-term project, which no doubt deserves a Season 2. The audience mostly praised the series and we hope that there is enough source material for another television round. Everything now depends on the BD/DVD sales. Once these are data published, we might append new information in our forecast. By the way, the BD/DVD box is available for preorder, according to the official announcement published on the official website of the anime series.
Kanata no Astra Season 2 Release Date
As mentioned above, Kanata no Astra Season 2 is yet to be confirmed. That's why we are tracking down the official Japanese sources on the subject of renewal. But in such a case, there are only three possible scenarios. The first one is if the Lerche has adapted all the chapters of manga in one television season. In such a case, even if the anime is renewed for another round, it could take two-three years to create more source material. So, we will have to wait at least until 2023.
In the best case scenario, if we are talking about a single-cour season, and given that the Lerche studio adapted only two volumes of the original manga, we have enough source material for another television round. In such a case, we should expect Astra Lost in Space Season 2 already next summer, in July 2020, given the current schedule of the anime series.
Finally, we have another case scenario, if the Lerche studio has adapted four volumes of the original manga into a 24-episode season. In such a case, the waiting could be a bit longer, until at least 2021. So guys, we are looking forward to any official news about Kanata no Astra Season 2 and a specific release date. Kanata no Astra Summary
