Empire Season 6 release date is slated for Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at 9/8c on FOX. The musical soap opera won't return for a Season 7, since the upcoming sixth installment would be the show's last. On June 24, 2019, FOX announced the network's fall programming schedule, as well as dropped a tweet with a specific release date for the upcoming television season of Empire. No official synopsis for Season 6 has been announced so far.
Empire Season 6 promises to be filled with drama, shocking surprises and more jaw-dropping moments, according to the official announcement by FOX. The current, 5th season premiere has garnered over six million viewers (6.09) with a 1.9/9 key demo/share among adults 18-49. Though Empire has lost about 13.62% of its target audience, the ratings were pretty favorable. No doubt, such statistics were enough for the FOX's management in order to make a decision on renewal.
Nonetheless, also worth mentioning that the reviews from the viewers were quite ambivalent as for Empire Season 5. On Rotten Tomatoes, the current season holds a score of 2.6/5 and only 41% approval rating among the viewers. However, most of the critics were apparently satisfied with Empire Season 5. On Metacritic, the fifth installment of the musical soap opera has a rating of 1.4/10, which looks quite negative. Yet Empire remains one of the top performers on FOX.

The storyline centers around a successful entrepreneur Lucious Lyon, the one, who controls a well-known hip-hop label, Empire Entertainment. In the past, Lucious was a drug dealer, who nonetheless opted to cut the roots of his past. Lucious thereby managed to escape such a dirty business, and as a result climb onto the hip-hop musical Olympus, as a respectable hip-hop mogul. Yet Lucious has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the illness, which put at a risk the entire empire.
When the business and family is on fire, Lucious has no other idea than entrust the control upon his empire to the only one of his three sons. However, his ex-wife doesn't want to remain out of pie with no penny. She claims her right to Empire Entertainment as well. Cookie desires to dethrone Lucious, and thereby take everything under her own control. For five seasons the battle for the reins and control upon Empire Entertainment is continuing, and it seems that no one is going to retreat. The show premiered on FOX on January 7, 2015, and has shortly become the international television hit.
