Just hours ago, ABC published a teaser on the network's official Twitter page, to inform us that Rookie Season 2 is officially confirmed. No specific release date has been announced for the upcoming sophomore season. Yet it's clear that the premiere is slated for this fall. We frankly had no doubt that the decision of renewal was just a matter of time. And we're happy, thereby that our forecast appeared to be truthful.
First of all, it's worth mentioning that The Rookie drew enough viewing audience during its premiere, 5.43 million viewers with a 1.0/5 key demo/share among adults (P18-49). The further episodes of the 1st season have garnered not less than 3.5 million viewers each. Talking about the total quantity of viewers, including DVR, we have a figure close to ten million viewers (9.68). Though the numbers don't look impressive, the viewership of the series is more than enough for a decision on renewal.
The Rookie Season 1 has been positively met by the most of critics, while among the viewers the show has received the universal acclaim. On Rotten Tomatoes, the 1st installment of the police procedural dramedy holds a score of 6.33/10 with a 68% approval rating among critics, while the viewers have rated the debut season of the show at 4.5/5, providing a 92% rating. On Metacritic, we see almost the same figures, 64/100 and 7.5/10, among critics/viewers, respectively. On IMDb, The Rookie keeps steady ratings, 8.0/10 based on over 8,200 votes.
The Rookie is unique among all other shows of such a genre. However, also worth noting that the reviews, which the show has received from critics and viewers were quite ambivalent. In our opinion, The Rookie is a kind of police procedural which is worth watching.
Summing up, given the positive statistics presented above, we have concluded that the management of ABC isn't going to think so long on the subject of renewal and is about to pick up The Rookie for a 2nd installment. It turned out that the statistics never lie. If the viewership is high and the response from critics and viewers is above average, the decision on renewal, as a rule, follows soon.
The Rookie Season 2 Release Date
As mentioned above, The Rookie Season 2 release date is yet to be announced. Nonetheless, we don't think that ABC is going to shift the show in another time slot. Given the fact that the debut season kicked off in October, we are expecting The Rookie Season 2 this fall, in October 2019.
Of course, we don't rule out that ABC could make some changes in the schedule. Therefore, we are looking forward to the official news from the network. As soon as ABC sets the exact date for The Rookie Season 2, we will update this page. Stay tuned for updates. We will keep you informed.
