The Night Manager Series 2 Is In Development

We know that you adore this show since each of us demands the appearance of the new Bond. Indeed, Tom Hiddleston is suitable for this role, isn't it? The Night Manager was rather a six-part spy thriller than a mini-series. We followed the storyline in one breath like watching a movie. No wonder, the story has its roots in the brilliant eponymous novel by John le Carre. Of course, we do not agree with the fact that the series ended so early.
Thus, most of the viewers are eagerly looking forward to the next installment. But is the new television season possible for The Night Manager? There were plenty of rumors on the subject. However, it was evident that the show must get its sophomore installment somehow. Fortunately, on March 7, 2017, the BBC confirmed the renewal.

Generally speaking, there was nothing to discuss since The Night Manager is a mini-series based on the novel of the same name. The main obstacle to film Season 2 was that there is not enough source material. The television adaptation fully covered the entire storyline of the initial source. Therefore, there was nothing to adapt in fact. So, if we are taking into account only this factor, there couldn't be The Night Manager Series 2. However, the world of television adheres some unspoken rules, especially when it relates to money. Eventually, this factor has played its role.
Indeed, there are numerous examples when a television project was canceled. But the network, which broadcasted the show restored it in their lineup when decided that it's commercially justified to produce another installment. Another example is when some other network picks up the presumable promising series after its cancellation by the first broadcaster. The primary rule which is working, in that case, is that the series might generate revenue.
To define whether or not the series worth to be continued, the network uses the statistical approach. Why can't we apply the same method to figure out why this decision has finally been reached? There are plenty of key details that could assist us in defining it. First, let's take a look at the response of the target audience since this factor usually positively affects the decision of renewal.
The Night Manager has a score of 8.2/10, according to IMDb based on about 50,000 votes. On Metacritic, the series has a rating of 82/100 (critics), and 7.7/10 (viewers). Finally, on Rotten Tomatoes, the figures look more than impressive. The Night Manager holds a score of 8.33/10/93% among critics, and 4.3/5/83% among the viewers (~ 1,500 reviews). Well, the numbers can't lie; the viewers have appreciated this television project.
Another significant indicator is the viewership of the series. The first episode of The Night Manager has garnered 10.18 million viewers in the UK. The show's ratings were close to the figure of ten million within the entire first season. Finally, a finale has drawn 9.90 million viewers. We can compare these figures with the statistics of any US TV show. They are close to the viewership of the third season premiere of Empire, for instance.
Summing up, The Night Manager has received the universal acclaim by the target audience; this show has brilliant television ratings; the series, furthermore, has been sold internationally to over 180 countries, and was successful overseas thereby. So, that's why the BBC and AMC opted to extend The Night Manager for one more season.
What Is The Night Manager About?
If you had no chance to get acquainted with this masterpiece by the BBC, here is a brief overview below.
The story focuses on Jonathan Pine, a night manager in the luxurious Egyptian hotel and a former British soldier. He accidentally becomes involved in an illegal weapon trade intrigue. Jonathan encounters Sophie, a mistress of Freddie Hamid, who is a member of the influential Egyptian family. Sophie gives him a folder with documents that might shed light on the cooperation of Richard Roper, a British businessman with the Egyptian rebels. Jonathan decides to transfer the records to the British officials. As a result, Sophie dies.
In a desperate desire to take revenge, Jonathan accepts an offer of Angela Burr, a British intelligence officer, to infiltrate into Roper's crime structure. Jonathan makes this decision after he meets Richard in Europe, where he works the night manager at Swiss hotel. Later, Pine receives a chance to penetrate into Roper's syndicate by saving his son from the presumable attack. Jonathan gets in his residence, thereby. However, Roper continues to suspect Jonathan, presuming that he might be a "rat." Roper's right hand, Corky, doesn't believe Jonathan at all.
Nevertheless, despite all the suspicions Jonathan manages to get into Roper's confidence and even become his protege. Thus, Jonathan plunges into the crime world of the arms trade. However, it's worth noting that he works unofficially that causes a conflict between MI6 and CIA. But he couldn't even imagine how deep turns the conspiracy.
Series 2 Release Date
As mentioned above, The SUN has confirmed that the BBC has won the rights to create Series 2 of The Night Manager. According to the latest news, the show's creators are working on scripts. It's unknown for sure, how much time they need to finish this job. As you remember, the first series is based on a novel. So, it must be pretty complicated to create something like the masterpiece by John le Carre.
However, we suppose he would join the works. Otherwise, it could be difficult to film another season properly. Therefore, it could take at least one year to write the new script. To be more realistic, we doubt that they might cope with this task for just one year (since the official confirmation). In our opinion, the works could be finished only in 2019.
Nonetheless, we would be glad to be wrong. In any case, we are waiting for the official announcement. Fortunately, AMC joined the project. So, we have now two sources of reliable information. We will update this page as soon as we have some additional news on the subject. Stay tuned for updates.
