Narcos: Season 4 Heads To Mexico But Might Not Go Back In Time

The reason why the creators of Narcos named the show this way is that they conceived to reveal the lives of various drug lords instead of focusing their attention on just one prominent figure such as Pablo Escobar. As leads from the ending of the third season, the events of a next season will take place in Mexico. In October, the Daily and Sunday Express confirmed that Season 4 of Narcos would be devoted to the Juarez Cartel and Amado Carrillo Fuentes, in particular. The Independent reported the same news as well. However, we can't consider this information reliable enough since there has been no official news from Netflix on the subject.

However, according to TMZ, the future of the web series is foggy due to a sudden death of location scout Carlos Muñoz Portal found dead in Mexico in September. Meanwhile, Netflix has officially confirmed the fourth season of Narcos. Therefore, despite such a tragic incident, we believe that the show's creators still intend to continue their top-rated crime drama web series.

Indeed, this show was a success within the previous three seasons. The most recent third installment has received the universal acclaim from both critics and viewers. Narcos keeps the impressive overall rating on IMDb, 8.9/10 > 222,000 votes. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show has a score of 78/100 and 8.4/10, among critics/viewers, respectively. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show's third round was even more successful compared to its predecessors. The figures indicate the fast-growing interest in the series from the side of its target audience. It scored 7.46/10/96% among critics and 4.6/5/94% among the viewers. Thus, no-one got surprised when Netflix picked up Narcos for Season 4. However, few were ready for such unexpected turn which we learned before.

What Is This Show About?

This show reveals the real stories devoted to the most prominent drug cartels in the world. Narcos also focuses on the lives of the most well-known drug lords. The first two seasons of the show focuses on the story of a drug lord Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel controlled by him. The third season unravels the story of the Cali Cartel and its leaders, the Rodriguez Orejuela brothers. Unlike the two previous seasons, which entirely focused on the personality of Pablo Escobar, the third installment introduces the story of a minor character named Jorge Salcedo, the Cali cartel's head of security, who played, nonetheless, a significant role in the DEA's operation.

What Do We Expect In Narcos Season 4?

First of all, it's worth noting that the fourth season is doubtful. Pedro Pascal said in his interview for TMZ that they wouldn't film the next installment until they are sure that it is pretty safe. The death of Carlos Muñoz Portal is a serious reason to stop production of the show. Besides, it was a murder, not a natural death. So, the entire production team could be in danger. Perhaps some people in Mexico don't want that Netflix was filming the web series about the Mexican drug lords. Who knows?

Nevertheless, if EXPRESS and The Independent were right, the fourth season will be focused on the Juárez Cartel also known as the Vicente Carrillo Fuentes Organization. This drug cartel is famous for their incredible violence. You may have seen their public executions. These guys are cruel and inhumane, that's why their victims have usually been found decapitated. The season will, in particular, explore the life of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, who headed the cartel before his death in 1997.

What Do We Think About The Possible Release Date For Season 4?

It would be reasonable to assume that Narcos Season 4 premieres in August or September of 2018 due to the schedule of the previous seasons. But now the situation around this show is complicated by numerous dangerous factors. "Everyone is a target now," according to the Pedro Pascal statement. So, we doubt that the show's creators would manage to cope with the next chapter next year. Most likely, the show's premiere will be shifted to a most distant date, closer to Q1-Q2 of 2019. However, this is just our assumption. We are eagerly waiting for the official news from Netflix. Stay tuned for updates.
