ABC Renews Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. For Season 7

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC

What would have forced any network’s boss to renew the show, which has been struggling in the ratings? Indeed, the viewing audience of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. decreased almost five times in the middle of the fifth season compared to the show’s premiere figures. Nonetheless, Channing Dungey was quite optimistic on the subject of renewal during the TCA’s winter press tour, and later, the show got its sixth installment. Fortunately, on November 16, 2018, ABC officially confirmed that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had been renewed for a seventh season.

We, frankly, assumed that Dungey mostly relied on another valuable indicator. Yeah, we are talking about your reception, which was excellent for the fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. By the way, numerous critics were impressed as well. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the current season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has a score of 7.67/10 and a 100% approval rating among critics, while the viewers have evaluated the fifth season of the show at 4.5/5/91%. On Metacritic, the figure was 7.8/10 among the viewers. An overall score of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on IMDb remains high as well, 7.5/10 > 166,000 votes. That’s why nothing is surprising in the decision of Dungey. He just wants to give the series one more chance.

But the ratings were not satisfactory enough. The current season premiere has garnered 2.54 million viewers with a 0.7/3 rating/share (P18-49). The two subsequent episodes have drawn less than two million viewers each. However, later the figures stabilized. The next episodes of Season 5A have attracted 2.40, 2.49, 2.31, 2.41, 2.27, and 2.22 million viewers, respectively. These numbers are even better than those of Season 4B.
