The decision mostly depended on two primary factors, in our opinion. First, the 2nd installment of MacGyver has received mainly favorable reviews from the viewers. Secondly, the show kept steady ratings in its sophomore round. However, it's worth noting that MacGyver, nonetheless, has lost over 38% of viewers during the recent premiere.
But yet, the figures were acceptable. The second season debut has garnered 6.692 million viewers with a 0.82 demo rating among adults 18-49. The viewership was close to a mark of seven million viewers per episode during the entire season. So, the thirteenth episode has even won 8.141 million viewers with a 1.03 key demo (P18-49). Having witnessed such an uptrend, CBS opted to give one more chance for this action-adventure series in Season 3.
As mentioned above, the reaction of the viewers was much better this season. On Rotten Tomatoes, MacGyver holds a score of 4.2/5 and a 79% approval rating. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the show's score is 4.4/10, among the viewers. At the same time, an overall score of MacGyver on IMDb is average, 5.1/10 ~ 12,000 votes.
Summing up, despite such a drop in the viewership, CBS still considers the statistics of MacGyver acceptable. Moreover, we don't rule out that this show could return for one more season on CBS. MacGyver fits into the network's prime-time lineup. As a result, the broadcaster is interested in supporting this show.
