Yet before the 2nd season premiere, many fans had been arguing that the 1st installment has yet to adapt the entire amount of source material. Indeed, the original manga series consists of 23 volumes. However, what if such quantity of source material won't be enough for another television adaptation? Fortunately, there is another manga titled "Fruits Basket Another," which to date contains three more volumes. The last one was issued on March 20, 2019, much later than the 2nd season premiere took place. As a result, there is enough source material for Fruits Basket Season 3, in our opinion.
Secondly, the 2nd installment of Fruits Basket has received universal acclaim among the viewers. On MyAnimeList, Fruits Basket Season 2 holds a score of 8.08 based on about 7,000 votes. For comparison, the 1st season of the anime had a score of only 7.77/10 based on ~ 179,000 votes. Looks like, the 2nd installment has overcome its predecessor, as for the reception from the viewers.
The final point, which might affect the decision on renewal is the BD/DVD sales. This indicator is the most valuable among all the rest since it directly points out the commercial success or in turn failure of the franchise. It's too early to discuss such an indicator, because the 2nd season is on air. However, we're almost sure that this point will be also play in favor of the possible renewal of the anime.
Summing up, Fruits Basket possesses all the virtues of the top-rated anime, which no doubt deserves another season. Yet since there has been no official announcement of Fruits Basket Season 3, we would like to wait for the official announcement from the TMS Entertainment studio. As soon as the studio announces the renewal, we will update this page. Stay tuned for updates.
