The premiere of CW's freshman Charmed was a success, that's why nothing is surprising in that the network has renewed the series for a sophomore season back in January 2019. No official synopsis for Charmed Season 2 has been revealed so far, so we are looking forward to the additional news from The CW.
Charmed Season 1 premiere has garnered enough viewers for a decision on renewal, 1.57 million viewers with a key demographic rating/share 0.5/2, among adults (P18-49). However, also worth noting that the viewing audience dropped almost three times by the end of the season (0.59 million viewers).
A curious fact, the 1st round of the fantasy series has received completely controversial reviews from critics and viewers. On Rotten Tomatoes, Charmed Season 1 holds a score of 6.53/10 and a 70% approval rating from critics, while viewers have rated the debut season of the show at 2 out of 5 and have given a 33% rating. On Metacritic, the reviews were mostly mixed, 55/100 and 4.7/10, among critics/viewers, respectively. Even on IMDb, the show's overall score is weak, 4.3/10 based on approx. 9,000 votes.
In other words, even despite that The CW opted to pick up Charmed for Season 2, the future of the fantasy series looks doubtful, in our opinion. Of course, we don't rule out the further renewal, yet the statistics play not in favor of such a decision.
The story focuses on two sisters, Mel and Maggie Vera, who have recently lost their mother, who died under the mysterious circumstances. Later on, it turns out that there is one more self-sister named Macy Vaughn. Their mother kept this secret for years. But now, Macy is moving in Hilltowne, Michigan, thanks to a job opportunity at the local university.
Once the three sisters teams up under one roof, they started experiencing the supernatural abilities. Soon afterwards, the sisters learned that they are the offsprings of the dynasty of witches, and their mother has been a witch as well.
